John Vincent Murphy retired from the Federal Bureau of Investigation after 36 years of service.
He was one of eight FBI agents who ended the life of crime of gangster John Dillinger on July 22, 1934.
Agent Murphy and the other agents were waiting outside Chicago's Biograph Theater when Dillinger came out with his "woman in red," Anna Sage. The agents moved in and Dillinger pulled his gun and died in a hail of bullets.
Agent Murphy also worked on the Osage Indian murder cases which the FBI solved in 1925. Seventeen Osage Indians were murdered for oil property worth an estimated $4 million dollars.
