Obituary: Mary Elizabeth Bishop Billings; Jefferson City News Tribune;Online Edition; www.newstribune.com; Missouri's Capital City; Monday, November 29, 2004; Posted: Sunday, November 28, 2004, 02:16:08 am CST
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Billings, age 89 years, a former Jefferson city resident, died Friday, November 26, 2004, at the Atria Living Center, Spring, Texas.
Mrs. Billing was born January 17, 1915, at Aragon, Georgia, the daughter of Emmett and Lena Bishop, both deceased. She was married on October 1, 1950, at California, Mo. to Heywood "Josh" Billings, who preceded her in death on June 4, 1975.
A resident of Spring, Texas for the past five years, she was a resident of the Jefferson City area for 48 years.
Mary and her late husband, Josh Billings owned and operated Josh's Restaurant for many years.
She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Jefferson City, Mo.
Mrs. Billings was an avid golfer and member of Meadow Lake Acres Country Club. She founded the Women's 50 Plus Golf Organization and served as president in the clubs initial years. For her friends that played with her, she played her last nine holes at the tender age of 87, parring the two par three's at Kingwood's Forest golf course.
Survivors include: one daughter, Peg Kirn of Sacramento, California; one son, Cary Billings and his wife, Louise of Spring, Texas; five grandchildren, Lindsey Kirn of Washington, D.C., David Kirn and Brian Kirn of Sacramento, California, and Marjorie Billings and Joshua Billings of Spring Texas; one brother-in-law, William L. Davidson of Jefferson City, Mo. She was preceded in death by one brother, Harold Bishop and one sister, Peg Davidson (I think the first name of Mary's sister is incorrect. The information I was given by the Jacobs family and checked out with the U. S. Federal Census, is that her sister's name was Annie Laurie Bishop. Peg may have been a pet or nickname).
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 1, 2004, in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Harvel Sanders officiating. Interment will be at Riverview Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Wednesday.
Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Bright Light Foundation, 5740 West Little York, Suite 318, Houston, Texas 77091.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary. www.freemanmortuary.com
