Savoy Adamson

Savoy Henton Adamson passed away at age 83 on Tuesday, March 11, 2008, in Marietta, after a long illness.

Mr. Adamson was a native of west Georgia, and had a long career in Chattanooga including 13 years at McCallie School as head Varsity Golf Coach, advisor to the Astronomy club and mathematics teacher; as well as over 20 years at Chattanooga State Community College as a mathematics professor. He also taught mathematics for three years at Maysville Community College in Maysville, Ky.

He served in the U.S. Navy V12 program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in industrial engineering, received his Masters Degree from UTC and a bachelors of divinity from S.E. Baptist Seminary at Temple University. He served as Elder at Central Presbyterian Church and was a member of Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church. A noted author, genealogist, and a fantastic dancer, Mr. Adamson enjoyed all that life has to offer.

Mr. Adamson was predeceased by his parents, Henton Adamson, Mona Styles Adamson; and daughter, Sharon Styles Adamson Nevin, as well as brothers, Dr. C.L. Adamson and Styles Adamson.

He is survived by his former wife of 33 years, Charlene Brown Adamson, and first wife, Jacquelyn Yearwood Adamson Stone; brother, Willis "Bill" Adamson; children, Scott Adamson, Kenneth Ward Adamson, Benjamin Henton Adamson; stepchildren Elizabeth Duty Miller and Dr. Jack Douglas Duty; their spouses. nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Memorial services will be held Saturday. March 15, 2008, at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Rainwater Funeral Home in Bowdon, Ga.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are requested to be made in his name at Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church, Signal Mountain or the McCallie School, Chattanooga.
