Johnny Bates, aged six years, son of Mr and Mrs Howard Bates, of Glady, near Summerfield, is Noble county's first victim of infantile paralysis.
The boy took ill Friday and not knowing the nature of the illness his condition was not considered serious until paralysis of the limbs ensued.
The boy rapidly became worse and death ensued Sunday night at 10:30 o'clock. The Bates home was placed under quarantine Sunday morning.
The child is said to have contracted the disease from an aunt, Miss Ishbaugh, daughter of Mr and Mrs Charles Ishbaugh, who was a guest at the Bates home last week. Miss Ishbaugh had just recovered from the disease.
Ollie Bates, aged four, sister of the boy victim of the infantile disease, is also ill, but her condition is reported good.
Four sisters and brothers survive in addition to the parents of the boy.
Private funeral services were held Monday afternoon and interment was in Bates Hill cemetery.
