| Birth: | Jul. 31, 1891 Mississippi, USA | | Death: | Nov. 17, 1976 Senatobia Tate County Mississippi, USA | Cora Etta Tedford, one of 11 children (6 girls and 5 boys) born to Will and Fannie Tutor Card, was one of the most loved and respected citizens of the tiny Delta community of Darling, MS. Cora and her husband, Claude Casey Tedford, had four children: Toy Abram Tedford Jimmie Faye Tedford Malone Vertie B Tedford Brown Claudia C Tedford Lowe Cora was a wonderful homemaker who grew and canned her own vegetables and fruit, raised chickens, sewed and did beautiful handwork, maintained an immaculate house and reared her children. While growing up in Darling, the children received an excellent education at the Darling School and they each had many friends. Cora was a loyal member of the Darling Methodist Church which had Sunday School every week, but only had "preaching Sunday" once a month. She loved her flowers and had remarkable success growing them considering the texture of Delta gumbo soil. She was partial to red verbena, forsythia, quince and snowball bushes. She had a towering sycamore shade tree(just right for climbing) in her side yard and a silver leaf maple outside her kitchen window. For years the Tedford home was the focal point for family gatherings on Sunday afternoons and holidays. On these occasions, there was always plenty of food, and she was legendary for her chocolate pies, coconut cake, banana nut cake, and banana pudding. Her biscuits, cooked on top of the stove in a black iron skillet, would literally melt in your mouth! Cora Tedford lived the last few years of her life at the home of her youngest daughter, Claudie C Lowe, in Senatobia, MS, and this is where she died. Everyone loved and respected our Grandmother, and she and those wonderful days in Darling are deeply missed and fondly remembered.
