DECEMBER 1?

Death has again entered our community and taken one of our esteemed citizens. Ephraim P. McCreight was born in Adams County, Ohio, April 25, 1825, and departed this life on the 16th last, aged 70 years, 7 months and 21 days. He was the father of twelve children, seven of which preceded him to the other world. A companion and five children remain to mourn their loss. He came to Kansas in 1879, and the following Spring moved on to a raw piece of land 1 1/2 miles east of the Avoca postoffice, where he has resided ever since, and which he has since made a comfortable home. Brother McCreight gave his heart to God and his name to the church when a young man, and has always done honor to the cause of christianity. There was a large attendance at his funeral, which manifested the high esteem in which he was held. The funeral took place at the Bucks Grove church. The writer spoke for a short time from Luke 12:8, after which Rev. Barber made some very appropriate remarks. May he who knows the hearts of all men comfort the bereaved and sustain them in the hours of their grief.
