Marshall H. Garland, 83, of 46 Rolling Drive, Carlisle, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999 in Harrisburg Hospital.
Born April 27, 1915 in Walfordsburg, he was a son of the late William H. and Mae Wise Garland.
Mr. Garland was a graduate of Lincoln Technical School in Allentown. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II in the South Pacific on the S.S. Dalles. He was the former owner and operator of W.H. Garland Inc., a Carlisle fuel and coal company, for many years.
He was a member of Second Presbyterian Church in Carlisle; Zembo Temple of Harrisburg; Cumberland County Shrine Club; Harrisburg Consistory; St. John's Lodge #260 F&AM in Carlisle; Elks Lodge #578 of Carlisle; and AARP. He also was a member and past secretary of the Squirrels Nest Hunting Club in Perry County, and life member of Tall Cedars of Lebanon, VFW #7234 of Ocean View, Dela. and Carlisle Fish & Game Association.
Mr. Garland is survived by his wife of 58 years, Helen "Honey" Garland; a son, William H. Garland, at home; a half-brother, Willis Mason of Beltzville, Md.; a half-sister, Lois Meck of East Berlin; and several nieces and nephews.
Private memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Kutz's Cemetery, Middlesex Township.
