Irma V. Giszczak of Saginaw, Michigan, entered eternal life on January 13, 2010, in Bay City, Michigan. She was 89 years old.
Irma was born on May 15, 1920, in Altenburg, Missouri to the late Rev. Levi Myers and Mathilde "Tillie" Hoffmann. Irma was married to Thaddeus "Ted" Giszczak on June 9, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan. He preceded her in death on November 30, 1995. She was also preceded in death by her son, Stephen, on March 22, 2007.
Irma attended Wayne State College, from which she graduated in 1944 with a degree in education. She taught English after college.
During the 1960s, Irma was a volunteer for the Episcopal Church Women's Association, was a member of the PTA, and worked with the Band Boosters at Douglas MacArthur High School.
Irma loved gardening and flowers, and had an extensive outdoor garden as well as indoor houseplants. She was a deeply committed Christian, and was a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church.
In July, 2008, Irma had a great adventure, traveling over 7,500 miles by car across the Western United States with her son, Dennis.
Irma is survived by her children: Richard (Elizabeth) Giszczak, Michael (Rebecca) Giszczak, Dennis Giszczak, and Mary (James) Morris; a daughter-in-law, Charlotte Giszczak, 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Visitation: Friends may call at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Sunday, January 17, 2010 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Irma will lie in state at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
Funeral service honoring Irma will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 18, 2010 at St. Matthews Episcopal Church, 1501 N. Center Rd. Rev. Darren Elin will officiate with entombment to follow in Oakwood Mausoleum on Gratiot Rd.
