|Birth: ||Jul. 20, 1863|

My great grandfather.
John Franklin Wood was born on July 20, 1863 in Holmes County, Mississippi to John William Wood and Mary Jane (maiden name unknown).
He had seven siblings: Mary Cornelia Wood Bradley, Thomas Jefferson Wood, Robert Wood, Rosanna Wood Jordan, Jennie Wood Hale, William L. Wood and Fannie Dora Wood Nicholds Wright Wood.
His paternal grandparents were Elijah Wood and Roseanah Elmore.
He married Dora Belle Avant on March 2, 1891 in Henderson County, Texas. They were blessed with ten children: Luther Nathan Wood, Homer Lawrence Wood, Dallas Franklin Wood, Lela Belle Wood Chapman, Charley Douglas Wood, Mattie Mae Wood Clifton Johnson, Florence Thelma Wood Lambeth, Ruby Lee Wood Little, Winnie Valentine Wood Hyatt and Oma Fayrene "Fay" Wood Grantham.
He died on Tuesday, September 14, 1954 in Timpson, Shelby County, Texas. He was 91 years old.
I was only five years old when my great grandfather, Grandpa Wood died. The only memory I have of him that I remember is seeing him walking up the Old Tyler Highway in Jacksonville with his cane to visit his son, Dallas Franklin Wood, my granddaddy. It's hard to believe that I have a memory of someone who was alive during the Civil War.
