Son of Alexander & Mary Hemphill, husband of Margaret Venable (m. January 2, 1803), Presbyterian, father of five daughters and one son.
He was the administrator of his father-in-law's estate (James Venable).
From York County property records, in 1827 he transferred 182 acres in Allison Creek to Andrew Venable. Also in 1827 he transferred 137 acres at Moore's Branch to William B. Venable.
