The stone was broken in half when I saw it in 1999. It says:
JOHN M. DUNLAP;

fell at Gettysburg
July 3rd, 1863,
Aged 26 Yrs. and
John McKee Dunlap is the son of Madison Dunlap and Martha Hanna McKee Dunlap. He was born on 17 Sep 1836 in Rockbridge Co., VA. He was the 4th Corporal in Co. C, 1st Virginia Cavalry, the Rockbridge Dragoons. The Dragoons were local confederate militia organized at Fancy Hill on 12 May 1859. He officially enlisted 18 April 1861 in nearby Lexington. He was killed in action at the Battle of Gettysburg in Adams Co., PA.
McKee Cemetery, Also called Big Springs Cemetery. Located off Rt 60 on Rt 631 on Clarence Tardy's farm. Tombstones were recorded by Bob Driver, Mrs. (Miss) Margaret Seebert, listings provided by Rev. Wray Sherman of New Monmouth.
Dunlap, John McKee d. 3 Jul 1863 aged 26y 10m; Co C 1 VA Cav, CSA,, fell at Gettysburg per A. Ruley's Rockbridge Co., VA Cemeteries, Kerrs Creek, 1989, page 71.
Note: there was a duplicate site for John "Matthew" Dunlap, (1836 - 3 Jul 1863 at Gettysburg, PA in the same CSA battalion) at New Monmouth Church Cemetery. I requested a photo of his gravestone there (hoping for a cenotaph) but it was not found and is not listed on the church's burial list. His site was removed since this one clearly has his gravestone.
