Birth: Dec. 30, 1838
Rockingham County
North Carolina, USA
Death: Jul. 1, 1863
Adams County
Pennsylvania, USA

A son of George D. and Minerva Hill Boyd, owners of Boyd's Store and Boyd's Mill in the Sandy Cross area of Rockingham Co. George first enlisted for the Civil War in a Mississippi regiment but later transferred to the 45th NC Regiment, and became Lieutenant of Company A. He died in battle at Gettysburg. (One of three brothers killed in the Civil War.) It is said that his father would have taken a wagon and a team of horses to recover the bodies of each of his sons as they were killed in the Civil War. One of the bodies could not be recovered, but Mr. Boyd still erected a stone in the cemetery at Wentworth Methodist Church to commemorate that son.
