Jacob was a farmer. On Aug. 25, 1863, at Harpers Ferry, he enlisted in Company "B" of the Independent Loudoun Virginia Rangers (USA), under Captain Grubb. He was mustered in on Jan. 26,1864,at Point of Rocks, Md., at age 38. He was captured in a skirmish at Keyes Switch, Va. on April 6, 1865, and was paroled at Fairfax Station, Va. on April 16, 1865. He was mustered out with the rest of his unit on May 31, 1865, at Bolivar, W.Va. His first wife was Sallie Derry, who died in February 1867 at Neersville. He married Susan Chamblin on April 7, 1870.

Jacob Allen married Sallie Derry on Dec 27, 1845 in Loudoun Co., Va. His father James Allen was security to the bond. Joseph L. Russell proved lady's age. (Contributed by Cameron-Ashley Heath.)
