Cause of death: injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Kellye enjoyed working as a correctional officer for the Dickson County Sheriff's Office and had been employed there since October 2000. Previously, she worked in the same capacity for the Williamson County Sheriff's Office.

She was killed in a tragic automobile accident just before midnight on March 23rd, when a semi-tractor flatbed trailer lost its cargo. The cargo, over 20 half-ton bundles of cardboard, crushed the car in which she was a passenger. The accident also claimed the lives of two of her friends (the driver, who was also her co-worker: Mark DeLoach, and passenger: Jason Hogan, an off-duty police officer). Also critically injured in the vehicle were two more of her friends: Steve Rychlik and Sonia "Sissy" Felts, both of whom were also her co-workers.

Kellye is remembered for her warm smile and friendly laughter. She is greatly missed.

Her co-workers commissioned a commemorative plaque to be made in her honor. It hangs on the wall in the main corridor of the Sheriff's Office, along side other plaques which honor other deceased officers.
