More about William Taylor Baker:
"Willie" as everyone called him grew up on a farm. After completing the 5th grade of school, he quit to help his father on the farm. He went on later in life to get he's GED.

In 1955 he was in an automobile accident in which he broke his pelvis. Shortly after his recovery he returned to work at the Colwell Station, North of Mt. View, Oklahoma. And on Dec 18th, 1956, while working in the garage at Colwell's, he knocked over a can of gasoline which ran under a stove and caught fire. His legs were severely burned in the accident.

In about 1957 Willie started working at the APCO Station on the corner of Birch Street and Hi-way 58, in Carnegie, Okla.
In about 1963 he moved to a new location across the street from the APCO, (Baker's Fina Station) in which he owned and operated for 38 years.

Other businesses he owned and operated included; Baker's Laundromat, Baker's Quick Stop and Bakers Trailer Park. He built the Quick Stop out of lumber he recovered from the home he grew up in N.W. of Carnegie. In 1966 he joined the Volunteer Fire Department, elected Fire Chief in 1981, and retired in 1992 after 25 years of service. He also joined the Carnegie Police Department as an Auxiliary Policeman and took on extra jobs hauling hay and cotton seed hulls along with renovating homes and mobile homes for rental property.
