James was born April 12, 1940 to Isaac and Harriet Black Westfall. He married Miss Rachel Tarelton Clow on June 2, 1961 a native of Illinois. Together they raised their children Harriet Elizabeth, Mary A., Sarah Luvina, Amos B., Emma D. and Minnie B. Westfall. James and Rachel moved to Fort Scott, Kansas during the Civil War. He served in Company H, 6th Kansas Volunteer Cavalry. After the war was over he returned to Jasper County, Missouri and engaged in farming for six years. In 1871 he sold his farm and went to Arkansas, but he did not like the situation and returned to Jasper County the same year. He purchased the farm in 1882, which consisted of 160 acres good land.James was a hard working man and a good citizen.The information was obtained in part from 1883 History of Jasper County.
