"Brother Abel Adams died in Londonderry March 19, after a short but distressing illness of four days, aged 47. During a revival of religion in the town of Peru in the Autumn of 1842, brother A., sought and found the pearl of great price; and from that time to the period of his death, continued a devoted follower of the Lamb. Owing to a debility of the nervous system, the sky of his mind was sometimes overshadowed with dark clouds; but his heart remained firm; and with his eye fixed on Jesus, he still continued faithful in the performance of every known duty. His religion did not consist in a profession merely, nor in words, but in action. He loved the church of his choice, and delighted in the enjoyment of her institutions. Often, while listening to the preaching of the word, his countenance seemed to beam with a heavenly influence, till his full soul no longer able to contain itself, would give vent to his feelings in shouts of glory, or more frequently by peals of laughter which it seemed impossible to repress. But he has passed away from earth, and his voice we shall hear no more.

A wife and seven children are left to mourn his loss. May this bereavement be sanctified to the good of surviving friends, and the Church of which he was a member. L.B. PETTENGILL. Weston, March 27, 1855."
