Pvt. Sherman Andrews Killed In France
Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Andrews, 1113 Congress, received news today that their son, Pvt. Sherman E. Andrews, was killed November 16 in combat in France. News had been received December 5 that Private Andrews was missing in action. he was serving in the infantry, Seventh Army.
Private Andrews entered the service August 19, 1943. He was in the A.S.T. program until it was closed. He was graduated from Rosevelt High school in January, 1943, and attended Emporia State college. Private Andrews was born June 2, 1925 in Chautauqua, Kan., He held an expert rifleman's medal.

News has been received in Emporia that the body of Sherman Elliott Andrews, former Roosevelt High school and Emporia State student, has arrived in New York and eventually will be brought to Kansas, for burial. His parents are Mr. and mrs. Don Andrews, former Emporians, who now live at Downs. The father was a clerk in the Emporia post office many years prior to the time he was transferred into the railway mail service.

Sherman Andrews, known as "Sonny" was a graduate of Roosevelt High school and had one semester in Emporia State before he joined the Army at Fort Leavenworth in 1943 when 18 years of age. He had his basic training at Fort Benning, GA., and Army specialized training at Oklahoma A & M at Stillwater. He was at Camp Howze, Texas, before going overseas in the 103rd (Cactus) division of the Seventh Army. He was killed in action at St. Die, Frnace in the Vosges mountains, November 16, 1944.
The body will be buried in the Fort Leavenworth National cemetery. No date for the service has been set.
