Born in Hanover, Germany, son of John Henry and Sophia Margaret(Cordes) Ficken. Came to America, arriving in New Orleans with his family, on November 20, 1858. Claus served in the German regiment, Benton County Home Guards, during the Civil War. He reenlisted for the Missouri Militia and Illinois Infantry Units. He received an honorable discharge in October 1865 at Baton Rouge, LA. Married Gesche Wrieden on August 15, 1868 at Brauersville in Morgan County, MO with the Rev. Robert Helbig officiating. 12 children were born to Claus and Gesche. Following the Civil War, Claus lived in the Balke Prairie area between Cole Camp and Stover, Missouri. He was a Lutheran.

Claus son John Henry Fickens youngest son Adolph Ficken was presented with is great great grandson on his 93rd birthday this year. Wyatt John. Our family has been truely blessed with Adolph in our life.

Claus' youngest sister was Anna Kathrina Ficken, who married Johann Hink. They were my great-grandparents. Never knew them, of course, but sure glad they were around!
