Clarence "Doc" Ficken was born south of Sedalia in the Ionia, Missouri area. At the age of eleven he moved north of Sedalia with Carl & Flossie Walter and worked on the Walter Dairy Farm to make a living. In 1932, he married Bernice Wehmeyer of Cole Camp. They lived on 32nd Street south of Sedalia and "Doc" worked on the Lamm Dairy farm, owned by his brother-in-law Henry Lamm,Jr. While living there, their first child, Clarence, Jr. was born. Unfortunately, the son died hours later. Upon the pressures of the great depression, Doc & Bernice moved to the Longview Farm, south of Lee's Summit. Later, they moved to Independence, Mo. Doc worked at the Leed's General Motors plant in Kansas City, where he went on to retire. The Fickens were founding members of the Calvary Presbyterian Church on Blue Ridge Boulevard in Kansas City. He helped build the church. In the mid-sixties, they moved to a farm in Harrisonville, Missouri. Then in 1972 they moved back to Sedalia and lived on a 20 acre farm on Anderson School Road, south of Sedalia.
