SCOTTSDALE, AZ - A San Diego man fell to his death during an acrobatic performance in Arizona Tuesday night.
Thirty-one year old Josť Angel Vera was performing during a Cirque du Soleil-type show in Scottsdale when he fell to his death in front of hundreds of people in an audience.
Vera was doing a performance where he unravels his body from a sash while suspended 15 to 20 feet in the air.†† "Something went tragically wrong," said Scottsdale police Sgt. Mark Clark.
Vera fell to the floor head-first in front of an invitation-only crowd of about 750 people who were attending the FBR Open golf tournament.
Clark says everyone who saw the fatal fall is "absolutely stunned."
The San Diego-based acrobat was performing with a five-person troupe called Aerial Artistry.
The accident was recorded on video and investigators plan to review it to see what went wrong.
Angel Vera has worked throughout the San Diego area as an acrobatics and gymnastics coach and trainer. He was known and loved by many and will be missed.
