Edward K. Kurz, a resident of Roscommon, Michigan, formerly of Detroit, entered eternal life on Wednesday February 18, 2009 at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. He was 81 years old.
Edward was born March 7, 1927 in Detroit to Karl and Katherine Kurz.
Edward was the second generation owner of the Dakota Inn Rathskeller, serving Detroit for 75 years. The restaurant was opened in 1933 by its founder, Edward's father, Karl Kurz, and is still family-owned and operated by the third generation, Edward's son, Karl E. Kurz. The Dakota Inn is a registered historical landmark by the Michigan Historical Commission.

After retiring, Edward moved to Higgins Lake, where he enjoyed his lake home, boating, woodworking, and travel.
He is survived by his children, Carol Kamlay, Doreen (Dennis) Durandetto, Karl (Patti) Kurz and Lori (Brian) Kenny; grandchildren, Lisa and Kristen Kenny; and sister, Hilda Howarth.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Kurz, on October 31, 2005; and his parents, Karl and Katherine Kurz.
Visitation: Sunday February 22, 2009 from 2-8 p.m. at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W 11 Mile Rd. (4 blks. E of Woodward), Royal Oak, Michigan.
Service: Monday February 23, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, with the Rev. Craig Bickel officiating.
