Mary died May 8, 2014 after a long illness. She has been a resident of Gary, In for over 80 years. She was born to Leola Jones Williams and Gerrod White on September 6, 1923 in Paducah, Kentucky and she was oldest of 3 children. She was the wife of Rosco Smith one of the last Milkmen of Gary. She graduated from Roosevelt High School class of 1941. She was a retail clerk for many department stores in downtown Gary from Jack's Department Store, Continental Tailors, and for Westbrook Apartments. She was a member of Mizpah Seventh-day Adventist for 38 years and was a faithful Kindergarten Sabbath School teacher, and Deaconess for 25 years. She was also, Mizpah's Community Service Center Leader for 15 years. Mary Smith was preceded in death by parents Leola Williams and Gerrod White, her husband Rosco Smith, her brother Clyde Wright and her sister Barbara. She is survived by her son, Donnell (Beverly) L. Smith, grandsons, Sheridan (Pamela) L. Smith and Peter (Bonny) B. Smith, her great-grandsons, Daniel Smith, Simon Smith, Caleb Smith, Matthew Smith, Levi Smith, and Deacon Smith, her only great-granddaughter Sydney L. S. Smith. She is survived also by her brother-in-law Monroe (Francis) Smith and her 1st Cousin Mary Matthews.
