Lucy Clara was the third child born to Robert J and Emma Laura Brooks Mansell in China Grove, Pike County, Alabama. Granny Jennings always told she was not sure which month she was born, but she was told by her Aunt Rebecca she was born during corn picking time, so she picked September 26. She was 6 weeks old when her parents traveled from Shady Grove, Alabama to Madison County Texas. Clara's mother died when the children were small, Rebecca Mansel Hale raised Clara and her sister Maggie.
Her brothers were Thad, Samuel & Wiley Mansel, sisters, Beulah (Pic) and Margaret (Maggie). She had several half brothers and sisters. Her father married a third time after the death of Laura.
Clara married Newton Jennings, he died in 1944, she never remarried. She visited her children often, and was a jolly, little lady, who loved her family, and really gave her grandchildren a delight when she danced a jig for them.
Clara and Newt lived in Leon County when there children were born, except for a set of twin babies who were born and died 1908 and one son born and died in 1900, that are buried in the Old Alabama Cememtey, near the Alabama Crossing at Porter Springs.
