North Carolina, USA
|Death: ||Sep., 1849|
Elisha was born about 1775 and found living in Columbus County, North Carolina in 1810. Elisha fathered nine known children before his death in 1849 in Pike County, Alabama,
He was a well respected Baptist minister. In a paper published by the Pike County Historical Society in April 1978 entitled, "Some Settlers from Columbus, NC" Elisha is said to have been born about 785 in North Carolina. The Pike County Deed Book A, Page 176, shows that on 15 November 1832, several people of Columbus County, North Carolina, signed their names to verify that the Reverand Elisha Mansel was a good, trustworthy citizen.
His first wife's name has not been discovered, her age and date of their marriage are estimated, based on the date of the first known child. We estimate she was born about 1777 and died about 1798, since she died before 1850, and prior to the Census, the names of household members were not given. Short of finding a family Bible being located, it is doubtful we will ever know her identity.
It appears Elisha may have married a second time, in 1844 to Nancy Scott. If they did marry, she obviously died prior to 1849, she isn't mentioned in Elisha's estate that provided a complete lists of his heirs.
To the best of our knowledge, these children of Elisha and his unknown wife are the backbone of the various Mansel lines spread far and wide over the United States.

When those we love have left this earth, we still can feel them near. We'll see a picture, hear a song, and it's just like they are here. And when we call upon our faith, when we believe and trust, we know the ones we care about are always close to us.|
