| Birth: | Feb. 25, 1882 Vernon County Wisconsin, USA | | Death: | May 24, 1888 Vernon County Wisconsin, USA | Denver and Laura were staying at the home of their paternal grandparents, Reuben and Matilda Drake.
From the Vernon County Museum Reuben Drake, his wife and Two Grandchildren Murdered Thursday Night Near Viola We learn this morning by John Thayer, just from the scene, that he found Reuben Drake, his wife and two grand -children, under seven years age, by the name of Dupee, in the home dead - murdered. His account is that he farms the place and lives in a house on an adjoining farm. When they were not out this morning he opened the door and stepped in, and there lay Mr. Drake and his wife on the floor and the two children in the bedroom. All were dressed. It was evidently done last evening. Mr. Thayer says that he was in bed and his wife, who had stepped to the door, said "Uncle Reuben must be shooting; I heard three shots." I replied, "No, one could have heard the gun, it being a Winchester." On discovering them, he started out to warn the neighbors. Mr. and Mrs. Drake were over sixty years of age.
