Veteran Trail Driver Dies at 85: Grandson of Austin Colonist
Tom Burnam, 85, Native Texan and old trail driver died last night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A.B. Hitchman, 607 West Lynwood Avenue. Burnam is a native of Burnet County, Texas. He had made many drives "up the trail" in his youth, and also took many herds to market by rail in the early cattle shipping days. He was a grandson of Captain Jesse Burnam, one of the original 300 Austin colonists. Burnam was a member of the Old Trail Drivers Association.
Funeral services were held this afternoon at the Akers Funeral Home.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Hitchman and Mrs. Beulah Van Deman of San Antonio, two sons, Allen Burnam of Brewster County, Texas and Denzil Burnam of Superior, Arizona, eight grand-children and two great-grandchildren.
