Raul Garcia Jr.
Raul Garcia Jr., 38, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008, in South Padre Island.
Raul was born and raised in Laredo, attended Laredo public schools and graduated from United High School in 1987.
After graduation he attended Laredo Community College where he received a degree as a registered nurse. He was certified by the state of in various nursing specialties.
Raul worked for Doctors Hospital and Laredo Medical Center in various specialized areas of nursing.
While in Laredo, he worked for Critical Care Emergency Services and moved to Weslaco to work for Baptist Memorial Hospitals and Air Care Emergency Service Helicopters.
Raul graduated from the University of Pan American in December 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and was accepted to medical school.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ascencio and Cruz Piņa and his paternal grandmother, Elvira G. Garcia.
Raul is survived by his wife, Guadalupe "Lupita" Mata Garcia; his sons Raul Garcia III and Mathew Garcia and his parents, Raul Garcia, Sr. and Luz Piņa Garcia.
Also surviving are numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends.
A rosary was recited Sunday, Feb. 10, 2008, at 7 p.m. at the Hillside Funeral Home chapel. Visitation was held from 4 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 11, 2008, at 11:15 a.m. from Hillside Funeral Home to St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, 2710 Boulanger St. Mass was celebrated at noon. Interment followed in the family plot of the Calvary Catholic cemetery.
Pallbearers were Marcus Sauceda, Steve Villarreal, Carlos Mata, Carlos Mata Jr., Javier A. Garcia Jr., Carlos Cisneros, Placido Guerra IV and Louis Carbeil.
In lieu of flowers the Garcia family has requested donations be made to a college fund to benefit Raul's two young children, Raul III and Matthew. The college fund has been opened at Falcon International Bank, account number 0211017411. Donations can be made at any Falcon International Bank facility.
