Dora was the daughter of Adam F. and Maria (Kuhn) Gebhard.

News reached this city last Thursday that a Miss Gebhard living northwest of Verdon had died in terrible agony with convulsions resembling hydrophobia. It seems that some six weeks ago she had been attacked by a vicious dog supposed to be suffering from rabies, but that she having gloves on her hands, had prevented his biting her by seizing him by the jaws and holding him in this manner until he had been killed. She had received a scratch on her cheek, however, from which blood was oozing and it is supposed that in wiping it off she got some of the poison on her hands in the wound with the above result. The young lady was about 17 years old and well known and liked in the neighborhood west of Verdon. It would be a act of humanity to have killed off all worthless dogs running at large.
