Grace Jenkins Hamilton, age 94, died on May 20, 2010. She was born on December 4, 1915, in Oakland, Arkansas. The middle child of eleven children, she was the daughter of W.P. Jenkins, M.D. and Josie McGregor Jenkins, school teacher. The family moved to Bearden, Oklahoma, when she was a young child.
Grace attended Warner Junior College and Ada Teachers College in Oklahoma. She taught school in rural Oklahoma prior to her marriage to Arvin Kelly Hamilton of Bearden, Oklahoma.
They moved to Centralia, Illinois, during the oil boom of 1940 and lived there and in Brownstown, Illinois, until moving to Buras, Louisiana, a few years before retiring to the Salem community near Benton, Arkansas. During their retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton were members of the Salem Community Methodist Church. They also were longtime members of the Long Hills Golf Club.
Mrs. Hamilton was preceded in death by Arvin K. Hamilton, her husband of fifty-seven years; daughter, Karen Hamilton Lordan; parents, and six brothers and four sisters.
She is survived by three daughters, one son and their spouses; Janice and Don Botner of Little Rock, Arkansas, Ramona Hamilton of Cedar Park, Texas, Ginny Hamilton and David Kent of Walnut Creek, California, and Philip Hamilton and Mia Ramanov Hamilton of San Diego, California. Grace's grandchildren are: Mark Botner and wife, Vicki, Christina and Larry Chappell, Laura Johnson, David Johnson, Stacie Lordan, Jack Kent, Anna Kent and Carly Hamilton, great grandsons, Cayman Botner and Jacob and Benjamin Chappell. Jerry Morgan was a special friend at Presbyterian Village.
Grace was known for her outstanding organizational skills, excellent sewing and quilting skills, crossword puzzle expertise, love of college basketball games, golfing ability, and talent for serving a sumptuous meal at an hour's notice.
The last six years of her life were spent in peace, comfort and happiness at Presbyterian Village in Little Rock, Arkansas. The family wishes to thank the residents and staff for their care and kindness.
Graveside services by Ashby Funeral Home will be 11:30 Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander, Arkansas.
There will be an open visitation at Ashbys on Monday.
