Joseph Edward "Joe" Prevett, aged 74, who had been making his home in Pocahontas, Arkansas, with his daughters Ondalee Littrell and Patsy Jo Rapert for several years after his retirement from the U. S. Postal Service, died in the Randolph County Hospital on Monday, September 28, 1959. He was born in the Water Valley community of Randolph County, Arkansas, on December 26, 1884, a son of the late Absalom and Alice Blackwell Prevett of Paden, Oklahoma. Joe Prevett and his family made frequent trips to Oklahoma to visit Prevett family members living there. He was a rural mail carrier at Warm Springs, Arkansas, for many years and was well-liked and respected in the community. He had married Mae Morris in 1917, and they made their home and raised their four children in Warm Springs, Arkansas.
Funeral services were held at the Pyburn Street Church of Christ, Pocahontas, Arkansas, on Wednesday, September 30, 1959, preaching service by G. W. Allison, minister. Interment was in the Masonic Cemetery in Pocahontas under the direction of the McNabb Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Sherman Boyd, Dub Jones, Clyde Cherry, Byron Futrell, Leo Rainey and Perry Joe Pace. Joe Prevett had been an Elder at the Pyburn Street Church of Christ, and prior to that he had been an Elder at the Brakebill Church of Christ near Warm Springs, where he and his family were long-time members.
He was survived by three daughters: Ondalee Littrell of Jonesboro, Arkansas; Madeline Wright of Festus, Missouri; and Patsy Jo Rapert of Pocahontas; a son, Lloyd L. Prevett, Sr., of Berkley, Illinois; five sisters: Cordelia Ladyman of Chickasaw, Oklahoma; Jennie Gilbert of Prague, Oklahoma; Edna Tyler of Pocahontas; Flora Newton of McLeod, Oklahoma; and Bertha Suggs of Shawnee, Oklahoma; four brothers, all of Oklahoma: Arthur Prevett of Okemah; Luther Prevett of Okmulgee; Jesse Prevett of Oklahoma City; and Burl Prevett of Prague; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Mae Morris Prevett.
