Archie Timberlake, Retired Circus Performer, Dies
Archie Timberlake, well-known retired circus performer, whose home was on Medora R1, died Sunday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Jonnie Mae Nutt in Houston, Texas. He had been ill only a week.
Mr. Timberlake was born at a Bettsville, Ohio, September 6, 1882, a son of the late Melvin H. and Sarah Irene Youngblood Timberlake.
Funeral rites are to be at 2:00 o'clock, Thursday afternoon in the Mt. Zion Church, in charge of Dr. Charles Fisher. Interment will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Mr. Timberlake was married in September of 1903 in St. Charles, Michigan to Maude Brockitt, who died in 1910.
He started performing with circuses back in 1890 and was an acrobat, aerialist and clown and had performed all over the United States, in Austrailia and South America.
Mr. Timberlake was an uncle of Arthur Lake, who did Dagwood and Blondie cartoon strip.
Surviving in addition to the daughter at whose home he died are a son, Melvin Harry Timberlake, Medora R1, and a brother George Timberlake of Detroit, Michigan.
Three brothers and a sister are deceased.
The body will arrive in Seymour at 4:19 o'clock Wednesday morning. Friends may call at the Spurgeon Funeral Home after noon Wednesday.
Archie adopted Johnnie Mae when she was 15 so she could join the circus.
