Death Takes Ed Brown
John Edwin (Ed) Brown, 58, owner of Ed Brown & Sons Funeral Directors and Brown's Flowers, died at his home, 206 W. First, at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, after being ill for some time.
He was a native of Hillsboro, and came to Borger in 1944 from Austin. He bought the funeral home, formerly owned by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, in 1945.
Brown had been a funeral director in Hillsboro, and also in Austin.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Borger Chamber of Commerce, the Noon Lions Club, the Borger Elks Lodge 1581, Texas and National Funeral Directors Associations, the Austin Masonic Lodge AF&AM and the Borger Knife and Fork Club.
Brown took an active part in many of Borger's civic affairs.
Surviving are his wife, Vi, a daughter, Sue, of the home, two sons, Jim and Bob Brown of Borger; and a sister, Mrs. George Yrissari, of Dallas.
Private funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, at the Chapel of the Fountains.
Services will be conducted by the Rev. Joe Dee Ray, pastor of the First Baptist Church, and the Rev. Aos R. Meador, pastor of the First Church of the Nazarene.
Interment will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park.
