Henry Rector Salmans was born April 17 1840 near McArthur Vinton County OH, son of Levi Reed Salmans (Surname variation SALMON, SALMONS, SALMANS) and Catherine Ann Rector. He served in the Civil War Company A 123rd IL Infantry with brothers Samuel Harvey Salmans and Levi Cathorn Salmans.

After his brother Samuel's death in 1865, he married Samuel's widow, Arabel Ann McMechan Salmans on Aug 12 1866 in Coles County IL. Four of their 5 children were born in Coles County IL.

The Family then migrated to Larned Pawnee KS around 1872 with Mother Catherine Rector Salmans and brother John Richie Salmans. Arabel had her 5th child with Henry Rector in Larned KS. Arabel and her son by Samuel, Charles Allen Salmans died in Larned, Ks in 1878, and are buried at the Larned Cemetery in Pawnee County, KS.

Five Known Children (and their spouses) of Henry Rector Salmans and Arabell Ann McMechan Salmans were: May Theresa 1867-? (Edward Franklin Jordan), Ida Catherine Ellen 1869-1932 (James Henry McCabe), dau Orral 1870-1871, Olive "Ollie" Rose 1872-? (George T. Wiley), and son John Toles 1875-1925 (Lottie E Tarbox).

Henry Rector Salmans then married Arabel's sister Caroline Amelia McMechan on April 17 1879 in Larned Kansas. At some time after June 1880, Henry Rector and Caroline returned to Coles County IL where they had daughter Cora Capola Salmans 1881-1944 (Clarence Donaldson Hatfield).

Henry Rector Salmans died Jun 8 1882 near Charleston, Coles County, IL and is buried at the Craig's Graveyard with his Father Levi Reed, Brothers Samuel Harvey, Sanford Bundy, and Alfred Thomas, and his daughter Orral (child of Arabell). His tombstone notes his 2nd wife Caroline A (McMechan) Salmans as born Jan 19 1899, but no death date is engraved. We know that Caroline died Jun 8 1903 at Arcola, Douglas County, IL. But we also beleive that she remarried Richard Brown and is probably buried with her 2nd husband...BUT THIS HAS NOT BE CONFIRMED.
