THE PARIS NEWS, June 09, 2006: "Dorothy Amanda Cabaniss Coker, 93, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2006, at Tyler. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Saturday, June 10, in the chapel of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home with Patrick Cannon and Cleve Fendley officiating. Burial follows in Evergreen Cemetery. The family receives friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements. She was born Jan. 29, 1913, at Blossom, the :daughter of Hayden Knowles and Harry Emmett Cabaniss. After graduating from Blossom High School as salutatorian, she attended Paris Junior College and married Leonard Ray Coker in i1931. When her husband died in 1963, she returned to college, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree and a master's degree in library science with honors from East Texas State College, now Texas A&M-Commerce. She taught at Fourth Ward Elementary School and later at Aikin Elementary School, retiring in 1983 after 23 years with the Paris Independent School District. Besides being a supportive minister's wife, a mother, and a teacher, she was active at Lamar Avenue Church of Christ. She was a member of state and local teachers' associations, Retired Teachers' Association, Modern Study Club, and St. Joseph's Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Jack Allen Coker; and two sisters, Virginia Topp and Sally Hinds. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Sherry and Michael Munn of Tyler; a grandson, Jeffery Munn of Austin; granddaughter, Amanda Johns and husband, Rick of Wills Point; great-grandsons, Eric and Jack Johns, Wills Point; a sister, Rebecca Strickland and husband, Julian, of Plano; two sisters-in-law, Bonnie Coker and Annette Coker Cutshall of Paris; a brother-in-law, Carl Mack Coker of Paris; and several nieces and nephews. She was a lady who was always 'dressed impeccably' and who often donned a hat on many occasions. She will be truly missed by her family and friends.
