Funeral services for Mr. Sammy Plummer, Jr., were held on Thursday April 1, 2010, at 2:00p.m. at Ricks-Bowers Funeral Home in Jewett. Bro. Michael Hunter officiated. Cremation followed the services.
Mr. Plummer passed away on Sunday, March 28, 2010, at St. Joseph’s Regional Health Center in Bryan. He was born in Dallas on March 1, 1968, and grew up there and in Ben Franklin, TX and had lived in Marquez for the past fifteen years. From early childhood, he had the warmest heart and loved to help anyone in any way that he could. Sammy was always willing to help a friend in need. He graduated from Tristate Semi-trucking Driving Institute with honors and made his career driving big rigs for several years. He later worked as a mechanic for Kenworth. He is survived by his wife, Tamitha Plummer of Hilltop Lakes; two daughters, Courtney Gerhardt & husband Chris of Houston and Ivy Creek Plummer of Hilltop Lakes; one granddaughter, Cameryn Gerhardt of Houston; mother, Marolyn James & husband Glenn of Dallas; father, Sammy A. Plummer, Sr. of Ben Franklin; paternal grandmother, Willie Mae Plummer of Jewett; maternal grandmother, Ruth Wallace of Hilltop Lakes; one sister, Laura O’Brien & husband Carlos of Dallas; one niece, Erica O’Brien of Commerce; two nephews, Charlie O’Brien and Chris O’Brien both of Dallas; and many friends. Mr. Plummer was preceded in death by one sister, Alice Marie Plummer; his step-mother, Shirley Plummer; his paternal grandfather, Van Buren Plummer; and his maternal grandfather, Fate Wallace.
Specifically: Sammy was cremated & his ashes scattered over his maternal grandparents, Fate & Ruth Wallace's, property in Marquez, Leon County, Texas. A headstone was placed in the Marquez cemetery for family history purposes.
