Actor. He came to Hollywood, California from Ireland in 1935, and became one of motion pictures' best known supporting actors. His screen credits include, "The Dawn Patrol" (1938), "How Green Was My Valley" (1941), "Going My Way" (1944), "Duffy's Tavern" (1945), "And Then There Were None" (1945), "The Quiet Man" (1952), and many more. In 1944 he received both the Academy Awards Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor nominations for his role in "Going My Way," winning the Best Supporting Actor Oscar. His portrayal of 'Father Fitzgibbon' in "Going My Way" is considered his greatest role. (bio by: Sam Gindy)
