Former Wayne Sheriff, Civic Leader Passes

LOA Earl F. Brown, 54, Loa, former Wayne County sheriff and prominent businessman, died April 7, 1987, in a Salt Lake City hospital from complications following open heart surgery.

He was born April 15, 1933, to Charles LaVor and May Taylor Brown. He married Nadine Rasmussen, Aug. 12, 1954, Bicknell; later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was a partner in Brown Brothers Construction Co. and served as Wayne County Sheriff from 1958-66. He served two terms on the Loa Town Council. He was past president of the Wayne Wonderland Lions Club and was a member of the Loa Volunteer Fire Dept. for 25 years.

He had served as YWMIA president and counselor in the Loa LDS Ward Sunday School.

Survivors: wife; sons, daughter, Joe, Leon, Mrs. Chris (DeAnn) Schaugaard, all Loa; seven grandchildren; father, Loa; brothers, sisters, Arlen, Mrs Wade (Owona) Grundy, both Loa; Dale, Lois Ann Parsons, both Richfield; Mrs. Richard (Myrna) Larsen; Bicknell; Mrs. Royce (Erma) Allen, Bennion.

Funeral services were Saturday in Loa LDS Stake Center with Loa LDS Ward Bishop C. Kay Peterson, presiding and bishop's counselor Newell E. Harward, officiating.

Royce Allen offered the family prayer; Lorna C Brown played prelude and postlude music and Michael Brown offered the invocation. Arla Mae Brown Jensen gave a tribute and speakers were Barlow Pack, Scott Durfey and remarks by Elder Harward.

Music included selection by Carolyn Wood, Connie Torgerson and Anna Lou Hutchings; vocal solo by Dennis Ekker and vocal solo by Franke Keele. Paul Fordham offered the benediction.

Interment was in the Loa Cemetery by Springer / Turner Funeral Home, Richfield, where Bishop C. Kay Peterson offered a dedicatory prayer.

Pallbearers were Scott Grundy, Gordon Brown, Gary Allen, Greg Larsen, Roger Jones, Garth Taylor, Willie Kerbs and Merlin Erickson. Honorary pallbearers were grandsons and nephews.
