Willie Broaddus Carneal , 76, of Lakeside, died Thursday, January 11, 2001, after a courageous battle with emphysema. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Christy Lynn Carneal and is survived by his wife of 51 years, Margaret Butler Carneal ; two sons, William E. "Bill" Carneal of Richmond and David E. Carneal and his wife, Angela of Mechanicsville; two grandsons, Brandon J. and Tyler J. Carneal ; and brother, Herrell W. Carneal of Ashland. His remains rest at Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, and where services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery. Mr. Carneal was a U.S. Army veteran during WWII and was a recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star, a retired RF&P Railroad employee, member of Hatcher Memorial Baptist Church, American Legion Post 144, and a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans.
