Voice Actor, Singer. A native of St. Francis, Kansas, he is best remembered as the voice of the 'Jolly Green Giant.' He was also the voice of 'Snap' of Snap in the Snap-Crackle-Pop Rice Krispies trio, 'Dig'em,' the frog that sold Sugar Smacks for Kellogg's, and voice of the 'Marlboro Man' ads for years. A singer with the jazz vocal group 'The Singers Unlimited', he attended the Conservatory of Music in Kansas City, Missouri, before embarking on a singing and acting career that spanned over 40 years. Besides his work in television commercials as the 'Jolly Green Giant,' he also toured nationally with stage productions like the musical, 'South Pacific,' and appeared on the live variety show "In Town Tonight" from 1955 to 1960. Twice voted as the most popular singer in Chicago, Illinois, of that era, he also sang with the 'J's With Jamie' musical group, and was President of the Chicago Chapter of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists and the Vice President of the Screen Actors Guild, until his retirement in 1991. He passed away in Palm Springs, California, at the age of 80. (bio by: K)
