Dorothy Syck was the daughter of Carl Marcus and Isabelle M. (Thompson) Syck. She was the youngest of the four children in the family which included Wallace Syck (who died in infancy), Ira Wallace Syck (later a 4 term Sheriff of Mower County), and Ethel Mae Syck (Mrs. Fred) Volkman.

She attended Brownsdale public schools and graduated from Austin High School and the Teachers Training School in Austin. She taught school for two years, but quit teaching once she got married.

Dorothy married Verne C. Pike on June 12, 1919 in Brownsdale, MN. They resided on a farm just north of Brownsdale their entire married life living first in the family farm house and later in life in smaller home just south of the original house but still on the Pike farm property.

Dorothy was a past matron of Mizpah Chapter of Eastern Star in Brownsdale, the Brownsdale Study Club, and was a member of the Brownsdale School Board for 16 years.

Dorothy and Verne had four children: Evalyn Elizabeth Pike (Mrs. Dale) Hartson, Luverne Carl Pike, Joseph Ira Pike, and Carol Jean Pike (Mrs. Stan) Anderson. (See separate Find A Grave memorials for Joe and Carol).

Dorothy died at St. Olaf Hospital in Austin, MN, at age 71 after a long illness.
