CPL Jordan James Anderson
Birth: Jul. 21, 1981, Canada
Death: Jul. 4, 2007, Afghanistan

Corporal, 3rd Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry based in Edmonton, Alberta. Age 25. He was originally from Iqaluit, Nunavut and lived for many years in the Northwest Territories.

He was one of six Canadian soldiers, along with an Afghan interpreter, killed when their RG-31 Nyala armoured vehicle struck a massive roadside bomb approximately 20 km southwest of Kandahar City. The incident occurred while the soldiers were returning in a convoy to a forward-operating base in the Panjwaii-Zhari district after completing joint operations with the Afghan National Army.

Sixty-six Canadian soldiers and one diplomat have died since Canada first sent troops to Afghanistan in 2002.

Cpl Anderson is survived by his wife Amanda; parents James and Sheila Anderson; brothers Ben, Matt and Sam; grandmothers Margaret Anderson (late W.F.D. "Andy"), Christina Cossar (late RCAF Captain Cy); extended family, numerous friends and his beloved dog Penny. He is remembered as an avid reader, dog lover and knowledgeable in many areas, such as history, politics and religion.

Cpl Anderson was awarded South-West Asia Service Medal - Afghanistan Bar (SWASM), General Campaign Star - South-West Asia (GCS-SWA), Sacrifice Medal (posthumous).

Funeral Mass held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church, Ottawa, on July 14, 2007.

In October 2007, the University of Manitoba awarded a posthumous Bachelor of Arts degree to Cpl. Anderson. Before his death, he had completed all of his major degree requirements and had only a couple of elective courses remaining. When he finished his military service, he intended to go on in political science and international relations.
