Comedian. He graduated from Columbia University and Harvard University Law School, afterwards becoming an attorney in New York City. After less than a year of practice, Giraldo gave up the law for a career in comedy. Developing routines based on observational humor and black comedy, he performed regularly at the Comedy Cellar in Manhattan and appeared on appeared numerous television and radio shows, including "The Late Show with David Letterman", "Late Night with Conan O'Brien", "The Howard Stern Show" and "The Opie and Anthony Show". Giraldo was a panelist on Comedy Central's "Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn" and a judge on NBC's "Last Comic Standing", and also starred in several television shows and pilots, including "The Greg Giraldo Show" "Friday Night Stand-up" and "Gone Hollywood". He regularly appeared on the dais for Comedy Central's televised celebrity "roasts", delivering monologues at the events for Chevy Chase, Pamela Anderson, William Shatner, Jeff Foxworthy, Flavor Flav, Bob Saget, Joan Rivers, Larry the Cable Guy, and David Hasslehoff. In 2008, Giraldo was the headliner for the "Indecision '08 Tour", a nationwide series of politically themed stand-up comedy shows produced by Comedy Central. Giraldo died at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital several days after an overdose of prescription pills that occurred while he was staying at a New Jersey hotel, and which was reported by his management company to have been accidental. (bio by: Bill McKern)
