ERNEST PORTERFIELD JORDAN, 60, of Elizabeth Ave., died at Washington County Hospital Wednesday at 12:30 pm.


He was born in Funkstown, the son of the late Daniel and Virginia Kitzmiller Jordan. He spent his early life in Williamsport, moving to Hagerstown 44 years ago.


Mr. Jordan was a machinist at the Western Maryland Railway for 42 years before retiring. He served three years in the U S Navy.


He was a member of the Church of the Brethren and the Men's bible class; International Assn. of Machinists, Local 557; National Assn. of Retired Veteran Railway Employees; Western Maryland Credit Union; and Woodmen of the World.


Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nina Irene Goetz Jordan; daughters, Mrs. Lorrain Rheam, Mrs. Jeanene Crawford, and Mrs. Patricia Shank, all of Hagerstown; Sons, Richard F., William E., both of Hagerstown; and Sgt. Gary P., Vietnam; 17 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. Edita Wolford, Williamsport; Mrs. Anna Griffith, Palo Alto, Calif.; Mrs. Nellie Seaton, Bridgeport, Conn.; brother, Ralph E. Jordan, Hagerstown; nieces and nephews.


Services Saturday at 2 pm at A. K. Coffman Funeral Home conducted by Rev. DeWitt Miller; interment in Rose Hill Cemetery.
