Jack Goolsby was born on April 10, 1919 in Crockett, Texas to Carl and Helen Cannon Goolsby. As a young boy he had a paper route which he managed by riding his horse, Star, throughout the town. Jack was a good student and attended Schreiner Jr. College in Kerrville and the University of Texas at Austin, graduating in June 1939. He continued to study at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston where he obtained his medical degree in 1942. Jack then served his country in World War II as a Flight Surgeon in the Pacific Theatre from 1943-1946 and attained the rank of Captain while serving in the Army Air Corps.

In April 1942, Jack married his childhood sweetheart, Margaret Jane Willis. They made a life in Crockett where Jack set up a private practice as a family physician and surgeon. They had two children and all were members of the First United Methodist Church in Crockett. Jack retired from his practice in 1984 and continued to help as he could in the community that he loved. After a brief illness, Jack died in Tyler, Texas on August 4, 1989 and was buried in the Goolsby plot with his parents and sister in the Evergreen Cemetery in Crockett, Texas. Jack was a man of integrity and strength, and he was dedicated to his family and community.
