John was listed in Trenton Twp. tax ratables, July-August 1786, with two houses/lots under ten acres. He was possibly one of the John Campbells who served in the Hunterdon militia during the Revolutionary War, 1777-1784. He was listed in the Trenton Battalion, 1st Regiment, Hunterdon Co. Militia, 1792 (indicating that he was under 45 years of age). He died testate in Trenton, old Hunterdon (now Mercer) Co., in 1798/99.
