Vincent Lancellotti was born in Jersey City in 1916. He grew up and lived at 77 Broadway in Jersey City, NJ. He worked as a printer, was an excellent baseball player, and was a parishoner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel church. He attended William L. Dickinson HS in Jersey City for 2 years. His mother Olympia was a homemaker; his dad a printer.
Vincent- Jimmy as he was known- enlisted in the US Army on 26 Nov 1940. During WWII Vincent served as a tank commander and, like so many other US soldiers, arrived on the European continent by way of the Normandy beaches. On January 3, 1945 S/Sgt. Vincent Lancellotti, selective service #32055079, was killed in action during the height of the Battle of the Bulge. His column came under artillery fire which halted their advance. He ordered his men out of the tank and to take cover when he was killed by the concussion from the blast of an artillery round. His crewmen attempted to take him to an aid station, but he died en route. He was originally interred in an American military cemetery in Europe. At his parents' request he was brought home and was reburied in Holy Name Cemetery in Jersey City on 6 NOV 1947. He was engaged to be married when he came home. Instead he rests in peace beside his mother and father.
