"Miss Calista Gerst was born in Stark County Ohio, June 27, 1848. She was the daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth Gerst. Her father died in Ohio while Calista was a small child. The mother with three grown girls moved from Ohio to Jordon Street, LaGrange Co., Indiana. In 1873 Calista and her mother moved from Jordan Street to Wolcottville, Ind., to the home where they lived to the time of their death.
"During her girlhood Calista was converted to Christ and united with the Christian church in which faith she continued to the time of her death. Miss Gerst died at her home in Wolcottville, Ind., Sunday evening, March 9th, at 9 p.m., after only a few hours of severe illness.
"Funeral was held at the home March 12th. Services were conducted by Rev. H.E. Wright of the M.E. church. Interment in Whitmer cemetery."
Aunt Calista never married.
