The Culpeper, VA National Cemetery Burial Register from 1912 indicates on page 93 that he was a Private in Company B of the 26th Michigan Infantry.

It also gives his date of death as 14 Jan 1864 and lists his initial burial place as Stevensburg, VA.

There is no first name for him either on the stone or in the book. There is an alternate name showing for him in the book as Wm Stouts.

In the US Register of Deaths of Volunteers, 1861-1865 there is a M R Chalker, a Private in Company B of the 26th Michigan Volunteers who died in a "Regl. Hosp." on 14 Jan 1864 of the chronic diarrhea.
