William "Bill" BALSLEY - Born March 1, 1941 and passed away with family by his side on February 21, 2010 after a valiant 3 month battle with pancreatitis. A life-long resident of the state of Washington, Bill was born in Tukwila and spent much of his child hood living on Decatur Island in the San Juans. He graduated from Anacortes High School in 1959 and served in the Army in Germany and Korea in the mid-1960s. Bill worked as a computer programmer for the Washington community college system since 1967, retiring in 2007 after 39 years. His favorite pastimes were cooking and enjoying the antics of his grandchildren. He was also avid about hiking, camping, fly-fishing. He had hiked many sections of the Pacific Crest Trail in Washington state as a young adult and volunteered his time to trail maintenance. Bill is survived by his devoted wife Virginia, son Lonny (Melanie), daughter Leanna (Dirk), grand-children Amber, Ronnie, Ethan, Carsten, and Kieley, brother Rod (Leslie), sister Peggy (Ed) and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, February 27, 2010 3:00pm at the Lodge at Beaver Lake, 25101 SE 24th Street, Sammamish, Washington. In honor of Bill, donations can be made in his name to the Washington Trails Association or the American Heart Association.
